Down the TBR Hole #3

Hey Guys!

It’s Thursday – and you know what that means! REVIEW DAY!
People who Read the Title: *cough cough* May, this isn’t a review post!
People who are longtime readers of my blog: *Hmmm..* May, this feels very like the last time you did a Down the TBR Hole…
Yeah…well you are both right again! For once, I am not skipping a review Thursday because of lack of books to review! I am actually drowning in books that I have read but not reviewed ATM. But I just sat down to write this post and I wasn’t in the mood for a review so I decided to do this instead. Also I want your opinion on something:

Would you prefer that I write reviews for the Shadow and Bone Series and the ACOTAR series with each book in the respective series individually reviewed or reviews for the series as a whole in a single post?
Please tell me below because I’ll do whatever you all would prefer to read.

Anyway, if you don’t know what the Down the TBR Hole Bookish Meme is, then I will explain. It was originally created by Lia at Lost in a Story but now it is done by basically every book blogger and their second aunties, cousins, dog twice removed. Here are the rules, and let’s jump into this!

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger

I really liked Shout Out which is one of the other Kody Keplinger reads set at the school so I already know I love the writing style. The plot sounds a bit cliche but also kind of cute so I am going to say this is a solid keep!

Perfect Cover by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This actually sounds pretty badass and I like that it plays with a lot of stereotypes. I also predict a pretty fun romance in there for good measure too. It sounds so good it’s gone on my Amazon Basket…who knows how long it will live there for.

Oh. My. Gods. By Terra Lynn Childs

This is a bit of a miss I think. Despite loving most ancient history based things, I don’t like the way they seem to align it with Superhero’s. It feels odd. Anyway, this is a pass for me.

Falling for Nick by Joleen James

This is another swift no. I’m surprised I ever put this on my TBR to begin with since I don’t tend to enjoy romances with pregnacy/child raising in them and I’m also not a big fan of love interests who are in prison or have committed crimes etc. So yeah, this was a KICK IT for me.

Coffee and Cockpits by Jade Hart

This is a hard one to place since I saw the love triangle and instantly wanted to keep it but the longer I thought about it the more I realised that being trapped on a desert island really isn’t the kind of plot that excites me. That’s not true – more that I feel like it could easily lead to being quite repetitive and dull since the whole point is they cannot leave. But then I read reviews and quite a few people really liked it so I am really torn.
Ultimately I kicked it from my TBR because I looked to see how cheap it was to buy and I can’t buy it on my kindle so sorry but goodbye!

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaimen

This is another that surprises me because it’s so far from my usual read. It doesn’t sound like my kind of thing so this was an easy choice.

Ashborne by Kat Lilynette

I don’t exactly know why this one doesn’t jump out at me but it doesn’t and I am being brutal as my TBR is overgrown so this is getting cut too!

Death by Bikini by Linda Gerber

This is a definite keep! Teen Romance with a Murder Mystery thrown in? YES PLEASE! Need I say more?

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

This is a most definite keep. I only ever hear amazing things about this and Hate to Love is one of my favourite tropes.

She’s So Dead to Us by Kieran Scott

I think I am going to keep this one since I was pretty brutal with a few others and this does still sound like my kind of read. I bet the romance will be super sweet, I’ve not read a pure YA Romance in a while so maybe that’s why I am keeping it on my list.

I love doing these because it is so satisfying to give my TBR a bit of a clear out. I got through double what I usually do in this kind of post because I was just in the mood to clear stuff out. Anyway, I hope this inspires you to look back at your Goodreads TBR shelf. I will see you tomorrow for my February Bullet Journal posts. Have a great day!

  1. Not yet 🥺. But have heard a LOT of amazing this about it 🤔. And as a enemies to lovers fan I really want to pick this up but at the same time I don’t want to read and finish it quite yet 🥺. It’s always this way for me – when I am most exciting for a book I tend to procrastinate reading it 😅.

  2. I think I’d prefer either 🤔 Go with how you want to review. Mini reviews of individual books would work too TBH but hey, again do what feels easy for you 👀🥺 If you’re in a mood for reviewing the whole book, do it! If you feel like you want to do the whole series together do it! 🥺

Ohh new books except The Graveyard Book and The Hating Games 👀 I am glad you kept The Hating Games! 🥺🤩

Death by Bikini sounds interesting 👀 Adding that to my list 🤩

  3. I know I recently took a few books off my tbr but yeah, must remember next time to turn it into a blog post like this – having to explain why or why not you want to keep it might help me make up my mind! And I like reading other peoples reasoning for their tbrs.

      1. Maybe because it’s so easy to think ‘but it’s sounds kind of interesting…’ and then keep a book but when you type that out a lot you realise something needs to be done!
