My Monthly Anticipations and Goals – January 2021

Hi guys,

How is your day going? Mine has been okay so far, I slept in which was nice. Scotland went back into a full Lockdown yesterday so no leaving the house for me until the start of February at least. I’m looking at the positive, means more time to read! Anyway, I used to do these posts last year but I felt that they were becoming a bit bleh at the end of the year and I wanted to mix it up a bit so I thought I would add some monthly goals to the mix as well in the hopes that will spice this up. If you think they were better before or like this please tell me so I know what you guys like best! I’ll stop rambling now and just jump into what I am excited for this January.

Book Releases:

In the Penalty Box by Lynn Rush and Kelly Anne Blout. This appeared in my emails looking for people to review it this morning actually and I signed up as quick as I could because it sounds so great, fingers crossed I am lucky enough to get it!
Release Date: January 5th 2021
Figure skating was supposed to be my whole world. But one unlucky injury and now I’m down…but I’m definitely not out. I just need to rehab—a boatload of rehab—and who’d have thought I could do it on the boys’ hockey team? Of course, the infuriatingly hot captain of the team seems to think I’m nothing but sequins and twirls. What’s a girl to do but put him in his place? Game on.
Hockey is my whole world. I’ve worked my tail off getting my team in a position to win the championships—hopefully in front of major college scouts, too—so what’s a guy to do when a figure skater ends up as our new goalie? Of course, the distractingly sexy skater thinks I’m nothing but a testosterone-laced competitive streak. And surely she’s only biding her time to heal, then she’s gone. Game over.

The Invitation by Vi Keeland. I found this on Goodreads when I was hunting for books for this post and I am so glad I stumbled onto it because it sounds amazing!
Release Date: Janurary 18th 2021
The first time I met Hudson Rothschild was at a wedding. I’d received an unexpected invitation to one of the swankiest venues in the city. Hudson was a groomsman and quite possibly the most gorgeous man I’d ever laid eyes on. He asked me to dance, and our chemistry was off the charts. I knew it wasn’t a good idea to get involved with him, considering the wedding I was at. But our connection was intense, and I was having a great time. Though the fun came to a screeching halt when Hudson figured out I wasn’t who I’d said I was. You see, that unexpected invitation I received? Well, it hadn’t actually been addressed to me—it was sent to my ex-roommate who’d bounced a check for two months’ rent and moved out in the middle of the night. I figured she owed me an expensive night out, but I guess, technically, I was crashing the wedding. Once caught, I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. As I bolted for the door, I might’ve plucked a few bottles of expensive champagne off the tables I passed, all while the gorgeous, angry groomsman was hot on my tail. Outside, I jumped into a taxi. My heart ricocheted against my ribs as we drove down the block—but at least I’d escaped unscathed. Or so I thought. Until I realized I’d left my cell phone behind at the table. Take one guess who found it? This is the crazy story of how Hudson Rothschild and I met. But trust me, it’s only the tip of the iceberg.

The Ex Talk by Rachel Lynn Solomon. I’ve seen this quite a few places on the internet now and it sounds so good and lots of people seem hyped for it. It’s an enemies to lovers romance set on a radio show – sign me up!
Release Date: 26th January 2021
Shay Goldstein has been a producer at her Seattle public radio station for nearly a decade, and she can’t imagine working anywhere else. But lately it’s been a constant clash between her and her newest colleague, Dominic Yun, who’s fresh off a journalism master’s program and convinced he knows everything about public radio. When the struggling station needs a new concept, Shay proposes a show that her boss green-lights with excitement. On The Ex Talk, two exes will deliver relationship advice live, on air. Their boss decides Shay and Dominic are the perfect co-hosts, given how much they already despise each other. Neither loves the idea of lying to listeners, but it’s this or unemployment. Their audience gets invested fast, and it’s not long before The Ex Talk becomes a must-listen in Seattle and climbs podcast charts. As the show gets bigger, so does their deception, especially when Shay and Dominic start to fall for each other. In an industry that values truth, getting caught could mean the end of more than just their careers.

Movies/Tv Releases:

Death in Paradise (Season 10). I’ve been a fan of this show since the first season when I was about 12. I am really excited for this season because Florence is coming back and I always really liked her. I haven’t decided how I feel about the new detective yet but hopefully this season will help me decide.
Release Date: 7th January 2021

Lupin. (Part 1) This is something that came up on my Netflix Recommended. It seems like a French mystery/heist kind of show so I’m excited to watch it and see what I think. I don’t have much to say about this because it’s a complete surprise to me.
Release Date: 8th January 2021

The Great Pottery Throwdown (Season 4) I love this show. I really love any kind of creative show – bake-off, sewing bee, the flower fight, the arty one. All of that kind of thing I love so I am very excited for this.
Release Date: 10th January 2021

Fate: The Winx Saga. I was an obsessive Winx Fan growing up and even though I am probably above the age demographic for this I am going to watch it and I will probably adore it because Confession – I still sometimes watch the original Winx Tv Show designed for young teens and it is amazing. I am so hyped for this and it looks incredible.
Release Date: 22nd January 2021

Personal Life:

Like I said at the start, we’ve just gone back into lockdown in Scotland so there isn’t much I am excited for this month in respects to me doing fun activities but I am excited for my new term at uni to start at the end of the month so that should be good because I have some interesting classes this term.

  • I want to read at least 4 books this month. I am currently smashing that goal by having read 2 already and we’re only the 5th of January but we’ll see how the rest of the month goes.
  • I want to knit 3 more blanket squares. I have kind of stalled on this project lately over the festive period so I hope to get back to it this month.
  • I want to try to bake 3 new recipes. I’m starting this goal today by baking a cherry cake. I’ve never made it before and I hope I can do it justice because it is one of my favourite kinds of cake to eat because it reminds me of Christmas and new years.
  • I also have the goal of trying to write 2x a week. I want to get back into the habit of writing after I haven’t been able to for so long but I’ve not hit inspiration yet so I don’t know if this will happen or not.

I hope you liked this and the new section. Please tell me your thoughts below! I struggled to find books I was excited for this month, is there any big releases you think I’ve missed? Anyway, I hope you all have a great day and see you all tomorrow! ❤

What are you most excited about this coming month?
Is there any big releases that I’ve missed?
Do you get a burst of productiveness at the start of every month like me?
