How are you all? I’m good thanks. I’m basically in prepare mode for the brown envelopes falling through the letterbox with my results inside. So I suppose good but stressed in a better description. This was another solid reading months, I read a few and started some too. But unlike any other time in my reading history ALL yes ALL the books I read this month were on my TBR!! *pats self on back* Again like I said last month, I still I can’t believe that it was one of my best when this time last year it was 10 books a month at least. I enjoyed last months wrap-up with the other things thrown in so I am continuing that this month. Let the wrap-up begin…
The first book I read this month was one I started last month and finished early on in the first week of July. It was A bad Boy Stole My Bra by Lauren Price. I read it in return for an honest review: HERE. But for an overall insight into what I thought of it, it was my favourite read of the year and my official summer reads too. It was incredible 5/5 stars. Totally recommend for a good cheering up and giggle.
Imagine waking up in the dead of night to find your hot new neighbour dangling out of your window. What’s more, he’s clutching your tattiest bra in his hand.
What. The. Actual. Fudge.
When bad boy Alec Wilde moves in next door to Riley, sparks fly. After their ‘unconventional’ introduction, Riley is determined to get her own back. A nemesis is just the distraction she needs: inside, she’s barely holding it together. It’s game on.
But behind the banter, there’s a side to Alec that Riley actually likes. How can she get through to the real him when she can’t even take herself seriously?
My next read was Struck by Joss Stirling, which I also reviewed HERE, but I was not sent this. Again another incredible read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I hadn’t read any spy fiction in a while and I forgot how much I loved it. Officially obsessed with her as an author now.
Behind the ivy-clad walls of an exclusive boarding school, lurks a sinister web of corruption, scandal, and conspiracy. American student Raven Stone has noticed something is horribly wrong. First there were the unexplained disappearances. Then there were the teachers’ lies. And now the death threats …Also entangled in the disturbing turn of events is the enigmatic Kieran Storm – a fellow student with a killer intellect and a body to die for. He’s heading for trouble and taking her with him. Raven can feel herself falling in love, but can she trust a boy she knows almost nothing about?
The next read of the month was P.S I Like You by Kasie West. I had mentioned on my TBR that I have wanted to read this for a while now but I haven’t got around to it and I’m so glad I did. I did really enjoy it, everything I expect from Kasie. All cutesie and romance-fulfilling joy. It only gets 4/5 stars though because I felt the ending lacked a little closure. If you want a full review for this too, just leave me a wee comment to tell me so and I will be happy to oblige.
Signed, sealed, delivered…
While spacing out in chemistry class, Lily scribbles some of her favourite song lyrics onto her desk. The next day, she finds that someone has continued the lyrics on the desk and added a message to her. Intrigue!
Soon, Lily and her anonymous pen pal are exchanging full-on letters—sharing secrets, recommending bands, and opening up to each other. Lily realizes she’s kind of falling for this letter writer. Only, who is he? As Lily attempts to unravel the mystery and juggle school, friends, crushes, and her crazy family, she discovers that matters of the heart can’t always be spelled out…
And the final complete read of July was Wings of Flesh and Bone by Cathrina Constantine. This was another one that was very kindly sent to me to review and without giving too much away because the full review will be up tomorrow. I was definitely on the fence about this in comparison to the very high scoring books I had also read this month. But check back in tomorrow for more details.
An Angel. A Witch. A Demon. And A Choice.
Creatures from outer realms suck, as any gatekeeper worth their salt will tell you. Welcome to Rogan’s life, an orphaned seventeen-year-old who lives and trains with other misfits under her uncle’s roof, keeping Earth safe from non-human realm jumpers. Rogan’s biggest issue concerns her uncle’s short leash with her freedom—that is of course until she’s taken by a notorious witch, and her life begins to unravel. Soon, the supernatural beauty discovers there’s a reason her uncle kept such a tight lock on her whereabouts, and that she has more than angel blood running through her veins.
Eighteen-year-old Max is an angel, and Rogan’s mentor and guardian. He’s well aware of her tenacious inability to obey orders, though he also knows she’s a fierce fighter. When he’s involved in a scheme that ultimately gets Rogan kidnapped, he must battle his way back to her in an attempt to save her from the darkness threatening to possess her.
As of last night, I finally started Lament by Maggie Stiefvater which has been bouncing on and off my TBR for genuinely for about 10 months, if not more. So I needed to just bite the bullet and delve right in and stop pushing it down. It’s early doors, like literally two chapters in…but so far I have no gripes.
I am extremely excited at the moment because as a late eighteenth birthday present my mum is taking me down to London to watch Les Miserables which is probably my all-time favourite musical. If you didn’t know, I am a musical addict and I have wanted to see this show in London for the last 6 years or so. So in other words I am extremely giddy for Wednesday!!!! but anyway that was a long intro into me saying I have been listening to the soundtrack on repeat for a while now. My fave tracks…Stars, One Day More, Empty Chairs at Empty Tables and I Dreamed a Dream because that song is extra special to me as it was my exam song one year and earned me an A so everytime I hear it I get shivers.
Also, on Thursday my friend’s band, Longstay released their debut album: Calling Me Home, which I have also been listening to on repeat. My fave tracks are Remember, Ring of Fire and probably Forever too…and Mariah….and all of them really but If I had to pick those four are the standouts.
Grimm – I am still watching Grimm, only I am now Season 4 so it’s been slow progress for me but I’m getting there.
Ouran High School Host Club
Snow White with the Red Hair
Kenka Bancho Otome: Girl Beats Boys
First Love Monster
Ao Haru Ride – This month I have become obsessed with Anime. Like Obsessed. I finished each season in one or two days for each show, so I got through them super quick. The more cheesy and romantic they are the better! So if you have any recommendations, please leave them below. Of the list, Ouran High School Host Club was my favourite, and Snow White with the Red Hair was second.
Favourite Thing This Month:
My ukulele, again…I have been playing it every day and I am obsessed. I love singing and this is so much easier than singing with my piano. I’ve been learning all sorts of songs on it. My faves have been House of the Rising Sun, Fur Elise, A Little Fall of Rain and Half the world away, and so many more but those were probably my favorutie to learn.
So that’s it for today’s post. I hope you enjoyed this and are having a good day 🙂
