How is your weekend going? Mine has been okay, I have my history exam on Wednesday so I have been studying for that while also trying to recuperate my hand after the whale of the exam at was Advanced Higher English. If you don’t understand the Scottish system that’s fine because no one here understands it either, we just pretend we do!
Anyways, I have seen many of these posts flying around the Wordpressoshere (totally a real word) and I enjoy them and think they’re a really nice succinct way of telling you books that I read and liked and the kind of genres I am binge reading as well as helping you with recommendations if you have liked other similar book in the past. I can’t give credit to whoever started it because I don’t know who it was but WELL DONE THEM!
I thought I would start this hopefull new series off with two of my all-time favourites that I recommend you should read whether you have read the other or not:
Blackmail Boyfriend by Chris Cannon and Unmaking Hunter Kennedy by Anne Elliot.
They are similar in the way that The are both Stand-alone YA Contemporary Romance’s set in America, they also are told from both the guy’s and the girl’s POV at various times which is a little different for YA Romances because they are stereotypically only the female’s POV so I enjoyed the change. The thing that really reminded me of each other was that they are both relationships that are slung together for another purpose and they help each other through trials and tribulations and end up finding each other. I love stories like this because they are the farthest thing from insta-love that you can get and it makes it nicer to read – at least that’s what I find.
Here are both the descriptions:
BB: Sometimes, blackmail is the only weapon a girl has…
Haley Patterson has had a crush on golden boy Bryce Colton for ages. But when she hears a rumour that he hooked up with her she gives him a choice: be her boyfriend for a month to show other guys that she’s dateable—despite her overprotective and very intimidating brothers—or deal with the angry, cage-fighting boyfriend of the girl he actually did hook up with.
Bryce didn’t know the other Haley even had a boyfriend. He was just trying to get his ex off his back. And now, not only is he being blackmailed, he’s being blackmailed by an honour student. His new “girlfriend” has two three-legged dogs, her father mows grass at the country club, and she’s…well, difficult. And different.
Can something so fake turn into something real?
UHK: After a car accident–an event he considers a prank gone bad–pop star, Hunter Kennedy is forced to hide out with his aunt in small-town Colorado. He’s supposed to rest, heal his scars and attend high school in disguise until the press dies down. But he only wants to get back to work.
Worse, the girl who’s been assigned to make him over into a geek is a major geek herself. Vere Roth is a chattering pixie, a blushing tornado and a complete social disaster. He’s never met a girl who’s never-been-kissed, believes in romance and thinks Hunter’s a ‘nice’ guy.
Funny thing is…Hunter is nice around Vere because she’s his first real friend. He also can’t seem to stop sharing his secrets or keep her out of his heart. Knowing he’d never deserve a girl as sweet as Vere, he resigns himself to the friend zone and helps his new bestie with her own makeover.
She tortures him daily for ridiculous guy advice on how to snag her life-long crush. A guy Hunter thinks is totally wrong for Vere, and sadly, one who has taken note of Vere’s transformation.
When Vere asks her best friend for some kissing advice, Hunter can’t resist…
And that’s when things get out of control…
They are both complete sweet romancathon’s of joy, love and cuteness – with the occasional funny line thrown in for good measure. My favourite is Unmaking Hunter Kennedy, so if you haven’t read either and you are interested I would start there. It is also on Kindle Unlimited if you have that – I don’t but, if you do – lucky you and it’s on there!
I hoped you enjoyed this different post, the hopefully #1 in the title means more should come – fingers crossed – I am swithering about the day this goes up but whether it goes up Saturday or Sunday it doesn’t matter, I just hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend and embrace the coming sunshine! (At least for those of us going into summer)
