Interview with C.M Boers

Hi,

Here’s the next interview with another incredible author – C.M Boers, author of the Obscured Series which I reviewed last year. I am yet to read the next two in the series but interviewing her has definitely inspired me to read on. Another giant thank you to cm boers.PNGher for answering my questions and being so nice. Hope you enjoy.

Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself and how you started writing?

A little bit about me…I’m a mom to three kids. I live in Arizona. I love reading and of course writing. And I probably have an addiction to Chocolate 🙂

I started writing because I love it. It wasn’t until my son was born and I became a stay at home mom, that I had the free time to actually put down my thoughts. These thoughts became Obscured. And I haven’t stopped since.

What was your favourite part of your Series to write and why?

There’s a scene in Derailed (book three), that was my all time favorite scene. It was just so much fun! I don’t want to ruin it for you because I know you haven’t read it yet! 🙂 But it could be possible that is because Derailed is my favorite book of the series so far.

(ME AGAIN: ISN’T SHE ADORABLE FOR NOT SPOILING!!)

Who is your favourite character you’ve written and why?

I have to say that Abby is my favorite character. Even though she can be a bit naive sometimes, she always tries her hardest to be better than she was before, even if she gripes about it!

How do you keep/get inspired when starting something new or are having writers block?

When I find that what I am writing isn’t fun or it isn’t coming out well, I put it down for the day and do something else. Whether that’s reading a book, jumping on the trampoline, or watching some tv, I find that I can get my brain out of whatever funk it’s in. This can sometimes draw out my writing process, but I think it makes it more efficient and more enjoyable for me. I mean if you aren’t enjoying what you’re doing then nobody else will either.

Where did the titles of your books come from?

The titles of my books are directly related to something in the story even if it isn’t immediately clear why.
Obscured- It means to conceal. I felt this was especially true for the first book with so much of the secrets hidden for the majority of the book.
Divulge- Means to make known. With the second book, so much was revealed.
Derailed- Meaning diverted from it’s intended course. I think that with this one nobody sees what’s coming and that’s the beauty of it 🙂
Book Four’s name is to be revealed very soon, and will be released sometime this summer 🙂

I fell in love with Eli as a character, how did you decide the sort of person he would be?

Eli is a very complex person. He’s sweet and loving, but also serious and dangerous. It’s an interesting and perfect combination. When you start moulding a character you find, it’s not really you deciding what that character will be, but more the character telling you. 🙂

What is your favourite: food? My favorite foods are pizza, Mexican food, and chocolate.
movie? I don’t really have a favorite movie there are so many that I love, but one of the ones I could watch over and over would be Pitch Perfect, any of them.
book other than your own? I love C. L. Stone, her stories are unlike anything else out there. I also really enjoy M. J. Fletcher, his world building is pretty amazing.

As a high school student myself, what was your favourite subject when you were my age?

In high school, my favorite class was sign language. My teacher was deaf, and in order to communicate, we had to learn. I think that was the best way to learn and pretty cool to be able to put what you were learning to practical use. Other than that, I probably would have liked reading the best, but I always tested out and never got to take it.

Who would you say was your biggest writing (and non-writing) inspiration as a child?

As a child, I didn’t write a ton. But I did like to make little booklets and try to write children’s book. I wish I’d kept them! I couldn’t even tell you what any of them were about. And as far as inspiration goes, I think any time you read a book that’s well done, it inspires you to want to do just as well. So I’d say it was probably something along those lines.

If you could say anything to your younger self what would it be?

I would probably have told myself to start writing sooner, even if that didn’t amount to anything. the practice would have been great.

Are you working on anything right now?

Currently, I’m working on editing book four, the last in the series. As well as, something completely new and different!

And finally can you please tell readers how best to contact you?

Readers can contact me through Facebook (www.facebook.com/boerscm), instagram (CM_Boers) or my website (www.cmboers.com).

That’s all guys 🙂
I just want to say thanks again for letting me ask my questions and for being so sweet.
I do really recommend Obscured and I am totally going to re-read it before continuing the series – maybe as an exam de-stressor over May? Also if you want to know a bit more about her series you can see my review from last year, HERE.

Thanks and happy reading,
Maisy.
