Reading Habits Book Tag

Hi there,

For those who follow me on twitter (If you don’t, you should. Link’s on my Contact page.) you’re probably thinking “I swear she tweeted saying she wasn’t going to post today?” Yeah well, you would be right. I did initially say that but as I missed Wednesday’s post because I was away and I am currently having an hour where I don’t feel like I am going to be sick, I decided I would come do a simple tag for you guys.
I am going to do the Reading Habits Book Tag. I’m also going to steal DreamlandBookBlog’s idea and combine the Readabits Tag because I thought her post made a lot of sense. I have left a link to her post and I have also tagged who I think is the original creators of the tags as the bottom of my post.

Reading Habits:

1.Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Mainly I read in my bed, I find it to be the most comfortable and quiet part of my house for me to read. I discovered this year I could only read while I was under the covers though, bizarrely I couldn’t read sitting on top of them and I hadn’t noticed before.
Ah, the quirks of the human mind.

2.Bookmark or random piece of paper?

Technically it is both, I use a random piece of paper about sticky note size, in which I have folded in half and have written Bookmark on it. I know, so creative of me.

3.Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I have to stop at the start of every chapter. I have been late for getting to school countless times because I just needed to finish that chapter; much to my brothers dismay. My mum can stop at any point and it actually unnerves me to watch it happen. How can you people do it?

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

I never eat, I occasionally drink but it is very rare. If I am hungry I have to wait till the end of a chapter to stop reading get up and eat then come back to continue with the next chapter. It is a real nuisance.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

I can’t do either. It is probably similar to why I can’t eat while reading. I have never been good at multitasking and the conflict between what my eyes are doing and what my ears are hearing I guess is just too much to handle.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

I have previously talked about my horrendous disease in which I start reading a book and if I am not grabbed immediately then I put it down with the first few chapters read. But on the whole I tend to read on book at a time. I may be part of the way through in multiple books but I have recently tried to combat this and am only allowing myself to read the ones I have already started until that list is clear. I am also fully aware how much of an unnecessary rant that was.

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

I kind of touched on this but mainly read in my bed. I have been found occasionally reading in the school corridor but that is only in extreme circumstances where the book is so incredible I couldn’t part with it during school hours.

8. Reading out lout or silently in your head?

I read it my head but I read it in my head as if I am saying it out loud if that makes any sense.
It doesn’t.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

I have been know to skip lines of description to get to the dialogue if I am tired or if I am not enjoying the book but never pages, that would just be too confusing and detrimental to the plot.

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I like to keep it looking as new as possible because I’m a bit of a freak when it comes to organisation and I love my bookshelf to look pristine and in order, occasionally it does happen but very rarely and it tends to mean I kept pausing while reading it.

11. Do you write in your books?

I do not. I had to do it for one of my English essay novels and it hurt me deep inside to be defacing the book with pen, pencil and highlighter. This was the only case I have done this and I am glad for it. In hindsight I got a good grade so maybe it was worth it?

Readabits:

1. When do you find yourself reading? Morning, afternoon, evening, whenever you get the chance or all the time?

Because it is currently the holidays it has been at any time I have the chance but with my normal school routine I read a chapter or two before I get ready for school in the morning. If I am really enjoying the book I will read it when I come home from school also but mainly I will just wait till I’m getting into bed to read for a couple hours before I go to sleep.

2. What is your best setting to read in?

As I have already said, my bed. With as much silence as possible, no food and maybe the occasional drink; definitely no TV or music and a massive fluffy blanket to snuggle up in, all supported by an obscene amount of pillows.

3. What do you do first – Read or Watch?

It varies for case to case but overall, if it was a TV show I will probably have watched it first. I watch an obsessive amount of TV and if I fall in love with the plot or characters I will probably go on to read the books. If it is a film then I will probably have read the book first cause I don’t watch movies as much and unless I am really interested in what the trailer shows then I will only tend to watch it if I have read the book and enjoyed it. but like I said at the start, it depends on the situation.

4. What form do you prefer? Audiobook, E-book or physical book?

Again another one based on situation; I swap between physical and E-Book depending on what mood I am in, what is cheaper and if I already own any of the series in one of the formats. In the case of Audio books I only use them while working out at the gym and I must have already read the books in one of the other formats so maybe that doesn’t really count?

5. Do you have a unique habit when you read?

Other than the weird bed cover thing? I actually act out what happens, well kind of. for example: If the character says – I smirked or I raised my eyebrows; small thing like that I will do in time with me reading it. I am sure it must look insane to anyone viewing this but I don’t care, I am just so immersed in the story I feel part of it. I also have no clue if that last bit is accurate I’m just guessing that’s why I do it.

6. Do book series have to match?

Yes! Same format, same cover art, same edition all that jazz; if I want my obsessive inner organiser to stay calm.

So, that was the Tag(s). My posting will hopefully return to normal next week. I hoped you enjoyed.

Thanks and Happy reading,
Maisy.

  1. I really enjoyed this book tag and I love how you added your own humour/personality to your answers. Reading through some of your answers remind someone me of some of my reading habits.
